To Dust
To Dust is a visual music piece exploring the history of water extraction by the city of Los Angeles from Owens Lake in the Owens Valley region of California. The visuals were shot on location at Owens Lake and in the surrounding area, giving the concert viewer a visceral understanding of this landscape and how the actions of resource allocation and man-made environmental degradation have impacted it.
To Dust was commissioned by Sharon Lavery and the Downey Symphony Orchestra. The score for the standalone film version was performed by members of the USC Symphony Orchestra.
